What does an electrician lead cost on Google Ads in Australia?

Expect roughly A$115 to A$129 per electrical enquiry on Google Search, with A$118 the median across 7 Australian electrician accounts we manage (Sep 2025 – 24 Sep 2026). Most enquiries are calls, so separating urgent from planned work and answering the phone decide where you land. A$5,000 a month buys roughly 39 to 43 enquiries at those rates.

One electrical account, split three ways

How an electrician's campaigns can be organised so each search meets the right ad and page.

    Urgent faults

Power outages, tripping safety switches and burning smells. Short ads that lead with the phone number, run only while someone can answer and land on a page with a call button at the top.

    Planned upgrades

Switchboards, EV chargers and lighting. Ads that explain the job and send people to a service page with what to expect and a short enquiry form for the details.

    Local coverage

Suburb campaigns for the areas the team can reach quickly, so the ad names the suburb and spend stays where jobs are practical to attend.

Separate budgets for each group show which kind of work is producing jobs at a cost you accept.

An electrical enquiry from Google Ads cost a median A$118 across 7 Australian electrician accounts managed by SoudCoh (Sep 2025 – 24 Sep 2026). The middle half of accounts paid between A$115 and A$129 per enquiry, and 76% of enquiries were phone calls. An enquiry is a recorded call or form, not a booked job.

This guide sets out the full benchmark, how electricians compare with plumbers and cleaners, what budgets from A$5,000 to A$20,000 a month typically buy, and what moved efficiency in real electrical accounts.

A word on sample size. 7 qualifying accounts clears our publishing threshold, but it is a small group, so treat the range as a guide rather than a precise market price. We will widen it as more accounts qualify.

How we measure. An enquiry is a recorded phone call or a submitted form, not a booked job. Cost per enquiry is ad spend divided by enquiries, in Australian dollars excluding GST and excluding agency fees. Each figure is the median across accounts, and ranges are the interquartile range: the middle half of accounts, from the 25th to the 75th percentile. Inclusion rule: Accounts with at least A$2,000 of spend and 20 enquiries in the window, whose conversions are at least 75% calls and forms, and whose phone calls are tracked as calls. Taps on a phone number or email link are never counted as enquiries. Duplicate accounts counted once. A vertical is published only with 5 or more qualifying accounts.

How do electricians compare with plumbers and cleaners?

The same method, the same window, three trades side by side:

TradeAccountsMedian cost per enquiryMiddle halfMedian cost per clickEnquiries by phone
    Electricians7A$118A$115 to A$129A$21.8076%
    Plumbing15A$141A$110 to A$174A$16.8475%
    Cleaning14A$58A$44 to A$88A$12.1826%

Electricians and plumbers look alike in one important way: most of their enquiries are phone calls. Both trades carry urgent work that people ring about straight away, alongside planned work that people research. Cleaning behaves differently, with most enquiries arriving as quote forms.

Electrical click costs depend on what each account chases. The middle half of electrician accounts paid A$14.40 to A$22.75 per click. Emergency fault-finding in busy inner-city suburbs is contested; lighting, data points and small commercial jobs in quieter areas usually are not.

Why do some electricians pay more per enquiry than others?

Urgent and planned work need separate campaigns. A power outage, a tripping safety switch or a burning smell produces a call within minutes. Switchboard upgrades, EV charger installs, lighting and data cabling are compared and quoted. Blending them in one campaign means the urgent searches subsidise the planned ones and neither ad fits. Our guide to urgent and planned electrical work covers the split in detail.

Service pages decide planned-work enquiries. Someone planning a switchboard upgrade wants to know what the job involves, whether it needs an inspection first and what information to send. See the details a switchboard enquiry needs.

Search filtering matters more than usual. Electrical searches attract apprentices, students, job seekers and DIY researchers. Without a weekly review of search terms, a noticeable share of clicks goes to people who will never book.

Calls have to be answered. With 76% of enquiries arriving by phone, the ad schedule should follow real call cover. An emergency electrician who advertises 24/7 but lets night calls ring out is paying for enquiries that go to the next result.

This is the work described on our Google Ads management page, and our marketing for electricians page shows how we set up electrical accounts from the first week.

Blending urgent and planned electrical work in one campaign means neither ad fits the search in front of it.

What does a monthly budget of A$5,000 to A$20,000 buy an electrician?

Dividing each budget by the benchmark range gives a planning range for enquiries a month:

Monthly ad spendAt A$129 per enquiryAt the median, A$118At A$115 per enquiry
    A$5,00039 enquiries42 enquiries43 enquiries
    A$10,00078 enquiries85 enquiries87 enquiries
    A$20,000155 enquiries169 enquiries174 enquiries

It is a straight division, so treat it as the upper edge of what is realistic. As spend grows it reaches into dearer suburbs and less urgent jobs, and each extra enquiry tends to cost more. It also counts enquiries, not jobs: multiply by your own enquiry-to-job rate to estimate booked work.

We recommend a minimum of A$5,000 a month in ad spend for most businesses. For an electrician that is roughly 39 to 43 enquiries a month, enough to compare urgent against planned work and one area against another. Our guide to how much a trade business should spend on marketing explains how to scale beyond that.

What do the electrical accounts we run look like?

We publish a client's measured improvement only once a like-for-like comparison exists, and never their enquiry counts or spend. The electrical accounts below are newer or still scaling, so we describe how they are built rather than quote a before-and-after figure.

    • Aussie Electrical — a 24/7 emergency and compliance contractor in Sydney, with separate service and suburb campaigns so urgent faults and planned installations are bid on differently.
    • Sparkmaster — a Sydney electrician whose ads are matched to each electrical job rather than one generic message.
    • Aus Electrical & Data Services — a Sydney account covering both electrical and data-cabling work, with each service given its own enquiry route.
    • Gridless Build Solutions — air conditioning, solar and heat pumps in Victoria, planned work that sits close to an electrician's installation jobs.

Whatever the structure, measure calls separately from forms: across our electrician accounts, 76% of enquiries were phone calls, and 77% of ad clicks came from mobile phones.

An emergency electrician who advertises all night but lets calls ring out is paying for the next result's enquiries.

How do you bring an electrician's cost per enquiry down?

    1. Check tracking first. Calls from ads, calls to the website number and forms should each be counted once. Google Ads counts a call only once it passes the minimum length you set, so make sure that setting suits your business.
    2. Separate urgent from planned work in campaigns, ads and landing pages.
    3. Give every major service its own page: switchboards, safety switches, EV chargers, lighting, smoke alarms and data.
    4. Exclude training, job and DIY searches every week.
    5. Answer calls or pause ads. Match the schedule to real cover.
    6. Judge a new account on months, not days. Across launches we measured, enquiries in the second month ran at a median 1.9 times the first. See how long Google Ads takes to get leads.

When the website is the constraint, the fix sits outside the ad account. Our guide to a trade website that converts calls and forms lists what an electrician's landing pages need, our website design team builds them, and our lead generation work connects ads, pages, tracking and follow-up. The Aussie Electrical website is an example of an urgent-first layout with separate planned-work pages.

Common questions about electrician lead costs

How much does an electrician lead cost on Google Ads in Australia?

Across 7 Australian electrician accounts managed by SoudCoh (Sep 2025 – 24 Sep 2026), the median cost per enquiry was A$118, and the middle half of accounts paid between A$115 and A$129. An enquiry is a recorded call or submitted form, and cost per enquiry is ad spend divided by enquiries, excluding GST and agency fees.

How many enquiries will A$5,000 a month get an electrician?

Dividing A$5,000 by the cost-per-enquiry range in our electrician benchmark gives roughly 39 to 43 enquiries a month, and about 42 at the median. It is a planning range: urgent versus planned work, suburbs, competition and call answering all move the real figure.

Do electricians get more calls or forms from Google Ads?

Mostly calls. In our electrician accounts, 76% of recorded enquiries were phone calls and 77% of ad clicks came from mobile phones. Forms still matter for planned work such as switchboard upgrades and data cabling, which people often request in writing.

What decides how much an electrician pays per click?

Mostly the jobs and places the account targets. The middle half of our electrician accounts paid between A$14.40 and A$22.75 per click. Emergency fault work in busy inner-city suburbs is heavily contested, while lighting, data and small commercial jobs in quieter areas usually cost less per click.

Is the electrician benchmark reliable with a small sample?

It is published because 7 accounts meet our inclusion rule, which requires meaningful spend and enquiry volume in the window. A vertical is published only with 5 or more qualifying accounts. Treat the range as a guide rather than a market price, and compare it with your own account's history.

    Questions and answers

Should an electrician advertise emergency work 24/7?

Only if the calls will be answered around the clock. An unanswered after-hours call still costs the click and sends the customer to a competitor. Start with the hours you can cover and extend them.

What should I send before an electrical Google Ads review?

Send the services you want more of, your service area, recent enquiry numbers and how many turned into jobs. That lets us compare your account with the benchmark on like-for-like terms.
